The V8 Engine

Posted Thu Jan 9, 2003 in

I had forgotten what it’s like to drive a vehicle equipped with a V8 engine. The drive down to College Station and back was in my new truck. It’s equipped with a 5.4L (329 cubic inch) Triton V8. The statistics of the engine are 260BHP and 350lb-ft of torque. As I drove toward College Station I was impressed with the power and smoothness of the Ford engine. It’s not my BMW motorcycle by any stretch of imagination, but this engine pulls strongly and provides plenty of torque for acceleration.

I’ve been driving V6-equipped vehicles for several years. My old Ranger wannabeatruck has the big 4.0L V6. That’s a strong-pulling engine too, especially in the featherweight Ranger. It’s also a smooth engine. But it’s nothing like the much larger 5.4L engine in the F-150.

This is my first real truck. I’ve been waiting for a long time to own a pickup. Now that the kids are about grown, I can have one as we no longer need a 7-passenger vehicle. I’m very pleased.

  1. Well, if you want to call a Ford a real pickup, welcome to Texas at last! ;) — Dazed&Confused    9 January 2003, 14:29    #

  2. :-p I would call a Ford a real pickup. Now all I need is a cowboy hat and boots... ;) ruminator    9 January 2003, 15:29    #

  3. Also need to place a pair of rubber boots between the cab and the bed. Hang a cow bell from the receiver hitch and everything else will fall into place..:) — rivercanoe    11 January 2003, 01:55    #
