I should grab an image and use it here. Maybe I’ll come back to this later and do that.
Wife and I finished the first season of Joss Whedon’s Dollhouse last night. I caught only one or two episodes during it’s run, but didn’t understand the premise. So, while the series was running I didn’t follow it.
But, curious about Whedon’s work, I added the first season (only one available) to my Netflix queue. We started watching them a couple of weeks ago. Now I know why I couldn’t make sense of the series — you really need to catch them in order because the characters develop as the story progresses.
Wife told me last night “I can see why this didn’t capture a large audience.” Her intent was clear — like Firefly, the story is deeper than most television fare and requires an investment from the viewer; you have to pay attention to the details or you will miss important clues. There are many twists and turns, plots within plots, and layers of subterfuge.
It’s a good story and I enjoyed it. The last couple of episodes offer some quirky twists to the story and characters, but that is Joss Whedon.
