Science
Fifty years ago, the Russians successfully launched Sputnik I. I was four-years old and can barely remember anything about it.
A friend remarked that it’s a shame we haven’t explored the final frontier more than we have. I expected we would have been far further along and never expected we’d still not have approached Mars.
Remember “baby moon” hubcaps for cars- named more or less for Sputnik because of their shiny, (hemi)spherical shape? They were popular up into the ’70s. Most people have long since forgotten why they were called that.

They were good looking on a young man’s vehicle.
Of course, I had 8-track tape and a color-organ in that car too. :) I did vehicular stereo before it was “sexy.”
