Computing
I have no idea why things work (or fail to work) the way they do sometimes. Earlier this afternoon, I started to respond to a comment. My weblog failed to load. The cursor just cycled without ever accessing the site. Neither could I open a secure shell to my server.
I worked around the house as long as I could. Without getting anywhere, I decided to drive up to campus. So, Wife and I headed out, she driving the Bimmer for the first time. That was a treat and I think she likes the car.
Once in my lab, I could not find anything wrong with my server. But, no matter what I did, I also could not gain access to my weblog. I worked for an hour or so with no joy.
In the meantime, I also found that my Apple Cinema Display (for my office computer) would not work. The power light would light, briefly, then power down. I have no idea what might be going on there. I will call Applecare next week.
Well, because I could not get anything to work, I decided to go drown my sorrows in a Dairy Queen Blizzard. There was nothing left to do. So Wife and I drove toward home and stopped into our local store. There I did my best to forget my troubles.
Once home again, I tried my weblog again. Now it is working just fine. I have no idea what went wrong, but am suspicious of some network problems. There may have either been a glitch or they could have been working on the system.
But I feel like I have a computer black thumb today. Everything I touch seems to go down. I really should not be working with my notebook computer for fear that it, too, will suddenly belly-up.

If it had something a bit more powerful than a 9200 in it, maybe….. — Rookie 28 February 2005, 12:38 #
Yeah, the monitor is a big deal. The mini would be a fun box and is a great starter computer. I’m thinking about getting Wife either an iBook or a Mac mini.

Cool, Just got my State Taxes Back. Now to decide on Speakers (I have my eyes on a nice 2.1 set, My Apartment is so small I don’t really have room for a full on 5.1) or a nice set of surround (5.1) Headphones…

I am using the Harmon Kardon Soundsticks in my home office. They sound great and can produce a LOT of volume. They have a very precise sound that I like. They probably lack a bit in the midrange, but I find them pretty well balanced to my ears.
