I think I said that I would write a bit more about the BMW 325i that we checked out from the dealership. Wife and I took it out for a drive last night. We drove out U.S. 62 toward Brownfield, turned north on a farm-market road at Ropesville, and then drove to Smyer, thence back to Lubbock on S.H. 114.
I wanted a chance to see what the car felt like on the road away from town. The car rides smooth and stable at highway speeds and is quiet, quiet enough that we could talk in normal tones while driving down the road.
The Xenon lights are bright. The light up the road from shoulder to shoulder and make it easy to see. I really like them, they are an excellent safety feature.
The engine is smooth and torquey, even at highway speeds. I love the way the car handles in the few curves that I could find in west Texas.
We brought the car home and talked some more about it. We are really reluctant to take on another car payment at this time. But, we know what kind of car we want when it comes time to replace the convertible.
This morning we drove over to the other dealership. I wanted to compare the two vehicles to see what the differences are. Practically speaking, I see only two differences—the Xenon headlamps and the certified dealer’s warranty. There is something nice about having a 6-year/100,000 mile extended warranty. It is worth something.
So, now comes the hard part, decisions, decisions, decisions. We will return the car in the morning and talk to our salesman about our experience. Then we see… and decide.
