Random Ruminations has had some changes in it’s location on my workstation. Two things have changed then: First, Random Ruminations is now located at the URL http://www.randomruminations.net and can also be reached at the URL www.randomruminations.net. Second, I’m leaving a symlink at the old location so it will be properly forwarded. I’ll delete that symlink sometime in June. So, please update your bookmarks. Thanks for dropping by.
Thanks for the update!

— Linkmeister 6 April 2002, 03:24 #Symlink = symbolic link = unix geek language for a pointer to a file or directory. This is a very cool feature of unix that makes things like moving files and directories around much easier.
— ruminator 6 April 2002, 03:27 #I am so OLD! RPG Geek language I know; UNIX I don't. :)
— Linkmeister 6 April 2002, 11:50 #Well, I doubt you're much older than I am. We just grew up in different computing cultures. My first experiences were with IBM big iron, programming under HASP and later VMS, TSO, and CMS. Then came the micros and DOS, which I loved. Finally, when I could get away from Winder$, I did and have been in the unix culture since. I plan to stay there as long as possible.
— ruminator 6 April 2002, 13:38 #Thank you!
Better to change things up front, than try to remember...
— dan 6 April 2002, 15:43 #oh, my linklist is getting so out of date. i have more changes than i can remember. perhaps you could drop on by and add yourself to the freerange linklist?
i'm so lazy.
i've basically decided not to mess with my linklist till i can put it in a MySQL database for easy adds and changes. i love my linkys, but this obsession is too out of hand for me to handle with manual updates to the page. [sigh] which is why i put the add your link feature in. lazy, lazy.
— kd 6 April 2002, 16:23 #You know you don't need "index.html" in your URL, right? Your server will automaticly display the index of your page (unless your "hunt group" had "default.htm" or "index.php" as the index file.) I get here using http://www.randomruminations.net/ just fine...
— gOdOfMiScHiEf 7 April 2002, 06:04 #KD, I added my link to your list. There's no reason for you not to be lazy and keeping up the lists is a big chore.
Eric, I guess I'm something of a purist... it just doesn't seem right to drop the index.html from the URL. But, I bit my tongue and editted the entry and dropped it. I really like the unix side of the web servers because they're so flexible and not hung up with that old DOS 8.3 file name space. That would be the one thing I didn't like about DOS, but that's not a big deal considering just how many things I absolutely loved about DOS.
— ruminator 7 April 2002, 09:09 #Huzzah on the new url!
I came, I saw, I changed my linkage!
Like the header banner photo thing on your blog, btw - keep forgetting to mention that...
— batgrl 7 April 2002, 10:51 #Thanks! I'm really into this photography thing right now. I've been carrying the digital with me nearly everywhere I go. My next step is to figure out how to set apache (the web server) to accept http references and route them as a virtual server. I might be able to drop the shelob thing entirely if I can work that out. That would be cool!
