Blogging
I’ve gone through my archives and corrected the links. All of my off-site links should now work. (At least, those that are still live links should work.)
Now it’s on to repair the images, both embedded and popup, which involves re-uploading them through the Textpattern interface and editing a bit of code in the entries that contain images. I don’t feel as pressured about this because this affects presentation and not function. The links bothered me, though.
In the process of editing my link-code, I read through a lot of my old entries. Goodness I’ve written a lot of stuff. Some of it is pretty inane, much like this entry, just a document of some facet of my life. Other essays have more substance to them, though. One thing is for sure: Whoever inherits this on-line journal will have a lot of material to work with!
One thing I see though, is that when other sites, particularly weblogs, go down, they take some of the context away with them. One way to alleviate the loss of context will be to quote segments from the original document. That’s something I’ve done more of as I’ve matured as a weblogger and writer. I see that I need to do more of it.
I also see that I need to quote myself when referring to older entries. Some of my own context was lost when I made this move because I could not identify, with certainty, the exact entry I was referring to.
Also a lot of thanks goes to the Textpattern Forum folks who’ve helped me make the move.
