Textpattern

Well, the links page is now back up. I didn’t think it would be that easy to do, but I’m finding that working with Textpattern is not that difficult.

Of course, I’ve been immersed in it for the last 36 hours or so, but I think I’m beginning to grok how the system works and how the various parts come together. It’s really a well designed system and the front end is nicely done.

I still have a lot of work to do, though. I’m working my way through my old entries and am uploading the images for those entries through the Textpattern interface. I want to have them all in the system.

One thing that I’ve learned is that I have a ton of stuff already generated. Moving between content management systems is not a trivial exercise and one that I don’t think I want to do again. Here’s hoping that Dean keeps this one going.

I really like the Textile formatting system, although I’m perfectly comfortable writing HTML code. There is something elegant about letting the system generate the code. It works and works well.

That’s one of the features that drove me to Textpattern, and the fact that I no longer have large rebuilds whenever I update the style sheets. That was starting to take a long time. I would imagine that one day I’ll have to give up my university server and move to another location. I think that having the system configured the way that it now is will ease that transition.
