I’ve been working toward getting my iPod working with my Ford F-150 Supercrew for awhile now. I’ve been dissatisfied with wireless FM modulators that I’ve tried. The solution was to replace the radio with something that has a auxiliary input that I could use for my iPod. I originally posted the plan a few days ago here.
Well, Geoff suggested a hard-wired FM modulator, so I did some research about them and then bought a Delphi unit (for XM radio) to give it a try. It uses the same mini-jack that my iPod uses as a line-out.
In the process, I found out that removing the bezel that surrounds the Ford radio is trivial. I also found that Dan Thill went through a similar experience to mount his iPod and use a hard-wired FM modulator as well.
So, I’m almost done with the basic install of the modulator. I’ll finish hooking up the power tomorrow and test it. If that works, I’m going to order a hard mount for my iPod and install that as well, instead of using the velcro mount to the dash I’m currently using.
